1994 Revisited?

In my last post I wrote about a developing backlash against bigger and stronger government. At the time the Tea Parties were in full effect and, though the President's approval ratings were dropping, the possibility of a GOP comeback seemed highly unlikely. Now, nearly 4 months later, I feel like I am living 1994 all over again, at least where it relates to the political landscape. As in 1994 the president's health care initiative is failing and the GOP is running some very strong candidates that are polling strongly not only in Republican leaning districts, but also in moderate districts. Could it be that the GOP, with all of its baggage from years of fiscal irresponsibility, is staging a comeback? Could the GOP be in striking district of regaining majorities at the state level and even in Congress? I'm not ready to go that far yet but I do see GOP gains strong enough to put the brakes on the president's big government, anti-free market agenda. As with 1993 the 2009 off-year elections will be a good indicator. We shall see in a couple of months.
