As I was enjoying an anniversary dinner with my Wife Saturday evening I received a news alert on my phone. As I read this message my heart sank a bit as I read about the passing of Jack Kemp. I know to many people Jack Kemp was just another politician, but for me he was one of only a handful of politicians that I have truly admired in my life. In fact Jack Kemp came second only to Ronald Reagan on my list.
Mr. Kemp's message of civil rights earned him a lot of praise in the Black community and amongst other minority communities. His message to minorities was that they had a right to pursue their dreams and to not be held back by government, by the welfare system, or by a political party that relied on their poverty to justify its existence. Mr. Kemp understood the American dream and believed that everyone of us, no matter our race or our sex, had a god given right to pursue it.
Whether in his role as a Father, a Husband, an NFL Quarterback, a Congressman, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, or Vice-Presidential Candidate, Mr. Kemp was a truly genuine man. He loved people and he loved America. For those of us who believe in limited government, personal responsibility, and in the benefits of Capitalism, we have lost one of our most powerful advocates. We will truly miss you Mr. Kemp.
