House Democrats today elected Nancy Pelosi to be House Minority Leader in the next congress. I think that this will come as a surprise to many since Pelosi is seen as one of many reasons that the Dems lost the House. I don’t really find this surprising at all. With the slaughter of blue dog (conservative) democrats around the country on November 2nd, the democratic caucus in the House became much more liberal leaving Pelosi and her allies much stronger within their caucus.
The election of Pelosi as Minority Leader, along with the re-election of Senator Harry Reid in Nevada, is bad news for Democrats going into the 2012 election. In my opinion this is good news for the GOP since the winning anti-Reid, Pelosi, Obama campaign message from 2010 can continue right into the 2012 election.
