2010 Washington State Elections

Having lived in Washington State most of my life you would think I wouldn't be surprised by how people vote here. That being said I sit here surprised again at the contradictory election results here in Washington.

When it comes to initiatives the voters of Washington are very anti-tax. In yesterday's election Washington voters voted down, by a large margin, Initiative 1098 which would have created a state income tax. The voters also overwhelmingly approved Initiative 1053 which requires a 2/3 majority in the state legislature or voter approval to increase taxes.

With all of these anti-tax victories with the state initiatives, you would think that voters would also want to elect representatives that would oppose new taxes or increases to existing taxes. On the contrary, the voters of Washington State voted to re-elect several U.S. Congress members and possibly a U.S. Senator who have a record of voting for these tax increases.

I just don't get it!
