Will a Supreme Court Strike Down of Obamacare Hurt Obama in 2012?

Dick Morris wrote an interesting article on Realclearpolitics.com today (click here for article). I agree with Dick Morris that a Supreme Court nullification of Obama's health care bill will hurt him in 2012. It will be difficult for him to say "re-elect me" if the economy does not pick up in the next year, if the world political situation continues to deteriorate, and if his only legislative success is found to be unconstitutional.

Governor Chafee Punishes Talk Radio

New Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee is implementing a new policy that bans state employees from speaking on talk radio shows while on the public clock. Because talk radio is "ratings-driven and "for-profit programming” the Governor believes it is wrong for state employees to promote these profit driven enterprises. Let me ask you a question Governor... Are you also going to ban state employees from appearing on "for-profit" TV news outlets or "ratings driven" TV talk shows? Absolutely not because the vast majority of TV talk shows and news outlets are left leaning in their views and hosts. This policy is clearly discriminatory and directed at right-leaning talk radio.

111th Congress

The 111th Congress gave each and every one of us an additional $10,429.00 in debt. According to this article (click here) this is more debt than the first 100 Congresses combined. I just want to say a sarcastic thank you to this Congress. I appreciate the way that you looked out for the financial well-being of my family and the future financial well-being of my two children. Good riddance you selfish SOBs.

Goodbye Old Friend

We lost one of our dogs in the middle of the night last night. I took him to the emergency vet but they couldn't do anything but prolong his suffering. I'm quite bummed, but I'm glad that he is at peace now and that he is with god. We love you Jack and we will miss you. Thank you for your loyalty and for keeping constant guard over your family. Goodbye for now old friend.

Another Lazy Parent Sues McDonald's

I've posted on this topic a couple of times in the past, so for those of you who follow this blog on a regular basis, this post may seem like I am repeating myself. If that is the case I apologize.

Monet Parham, a mother in Sacramento, CA doesn't want to be a parent so she is suing McDonald's because her children are constantly asking her to take them to McDonald's for Happy Meals. She is blaming this harassment by her kids on McDonald's because they directly market their Happy Meals to young children. Surprise Monet, McDonald's is designed for children so they market towards children. Why are you so surprised that their commercials target children? Parham was quoted as saying "we have to say no to our kids so many times and McDonald's makes that so much harder to do". Really? How about you just say no and hold your ground like a real parent?

Parham goes on to compare McDonald's to tobacco companies. This is completely ridiculous. As I have said in previous posts, unlike tobacco companies, McDonald's offers a whole host of healthy eating options in its Happy Meals. It is up to you to as a parent to guide your children towards the healthy items. If you can't say no to your kids, or you are unwilling to show them the proper way to eat, maybe you shouldn't have children in the first place. Stop being lazy, stop blaming everyone else, and start being a parent to your children.

Congratulations to Ken Cuccinelli!

"This case is not about health insurance. It is not about health care. It's about liberty," Virginia Attorney General Cuccinelli on his successful victory challenging Obamacare in U.S. District Court. Bring on the Supreme Court! More information here.

Should Hillary Clinton Resign Over Wikileaks Revelations?

Some are asking whether Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should resign as a result of the not-so-flattering information made public in the latest Wikileaks information dump. What do you think? Cast your vote in the new TLA poll at the right side of this blog.

Wikileaks and Obama. An Impeachable Offense?

I'm no expert on hacking and cyber warfare but it seems to me that, after the first and second Wikileaks releases of top secret information, the White House would have come up with a plan for stopping additional leaks like the very harmful one that occurred this past week. The question should be asked why a hacker named "The Jester" can shut down Wikileaks' website for several hours on Sunday, but our Cyber Command could not? Did the president give the order to do everything necessary to block the release of this information and the efforts failed, or was the order never given? If the order was not given, and the president did not do everything in his power to stop this leak, should the president be held accountable for the damage caused? If you think he should be held accountable, do you think this is an impeachable offense?

Tim Pawlenty Wins TLA 2012 GOP Straw Poll

After several weeks of voting in the TLA 2012 GOP Straw Poll the poll is now closed. In this very unscientific poll Tim Pawlenty has emerged the winner with Sarah Palin in second place. Please check out TheLastAsylum.com for full results.

A Part-Time Congress?

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is proposing that we make serving in Congress a part-time gig. I couldn't agree more. Not only would this reduce the cost of government, but this would also force our elected officials to work in the private-sector where they would learn firsthand how their laws impact private businesses.

President's Job Approval Rating Sinks Into 30s

According to a new Zogby poll, only two years in his term, the President's job approval rating has now dropped into the 30s putting him at 39%. It took George W. Bush five years to drop into the 30s and he never recovered. Can Obama recover before 2012? Click here to read the LA Times article.

If We Lose Freedom Here...

I heard this quote again today and I thought it was worth repeating as a reminder of a president who truly loved freedom and understood America's place in the world.

"If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth." Ronald Reagan, October 27, 1964

Let There Be Incandescent Light!

Starting in 2012 light bulb manufacturers must start phasing out production of incandescent bulbs and must begin producing more environmentally friendly compact flourescent bulbs. The long-term goal is to phase out incandescent bulbs all together. Many people like the CFL bulbs, but I am one of those who finds the light produced by CFLs depressing and quite annoying, so I refuse to use them.

My refusal goes beyond just a disklike for the light produced by these bulbs though. Like with fuel efficient vehicles and government run healthcare, government continues to think that it knows what is best for me and my family and continues to force me to purchase products that I do not want. My refusal to use these CFL bulbs is my small protest against this ongoing government encroachment.

Hugo Chavez... Man of the people

It appears that Hugo Chavez is preparing to maintain power in Venezuela whether he wins re-election or not. Not a surprise. Given the proper economic conditions a dictatorship can be created anywhere including here. When people say it can't happen here, tell them to talk to a Venezuelan. I'm sure they thought the same thing before Chavez came to power. Check out the story here.

Another Left-Wing Hypocrite

Representative Charlie Rangel, long-time Democratic Representative from New York, has been investigated by the House for several ethics violations. Today it was recommended that he be censured, which is just a slap on the wrist from Congress with no real punishment. This is unfortunately another example of Congress protecting one of their own and not living under the laws that they create. Any of us would be facing criminal charges.

Rangel says that he wasn't acting for personal gain when he evaded taxes and violated campaign finance laws. Never mind that he has been a vocal critic of the rich who do not pay their fair share in taxes. I guess, like Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Senator John Kerry, Rangel is just another left-wing hypocrite who thinks there are exceptions for him and his rich friends.
